For the Design Faculty at the University of Antwerp, I contributed to the development of an interactive material library, a space designed to inspire, inform, and engage students in their design process. The library showcases an extensive range of material samples and products, helping students make more informed design choices through hands-on interaction.
Challenges & Innovative Solutions
Limited Storage Space: To address this, we implemented a pneumatic material transport system, creating a dynamic, eye-catching retrieval process that also maximized space efficiency.
Multifunctional Use: The space serves as both a working library and an exhibition area, doubling as a venue for talks, lectures, and material showcases to inspire both students and visitors.
Engagement & Interaction: The library encourages a tactile and visual experience, ensuring students can explore materials up close, fostering better material understanding and creative decision-making.
By blending functionality with spectacle, this project transformed a traditional material archive into a living, interactive experience, making material exploration both accessible and inspiring.
